The Kindle DX was in trouble for a while when the Apple iPad came to market but recent upgrades and a sizeable price decrease to $379.00 US has put it back in the game.

As before the Kindle DX is a large-screen e-book reader with an improved, higher contrast e-ink screen with a large library of 350,000 plus e-books, newspapers, and blogs via Amazon's online store. Other features include free 3G wireless access; it can store up to 3,500 books in memory; battery life that lasts up to a month and it displays image files, PDFs in eight different fonts as well as plays MP3 and AAC audio.

The Kindle DX is much less expensive than last Christmas but is only $119.00 less than the entry level iPad (which does almost as much as a netbook computer).
You can't remove or replace the battery and the size is heavier than most other e-Readers.

The size is much more friendly for newspaper readers and I think some students will prefer to study their math and science problems on the larger screen. The bulkier dimensions make it less comfortable for travelling on the go.

As in previous reviews I did last year, the Kindle DX is mainly for hardcore users who want to use it everyday and on the go. The extra battery life and the e-ink display makes the Kindle DX a winner over any competitor tablet. It's easier to read in bright sunlight as compared to a LCD screen and will last weeks on a single charge vs a few hours that an iPad can give you.

If I had to go on a week long trip and wanted to read on the plane, in the car or even inside a tent or hotel room, I'd pack the DX instead of the iPad. If I wanted to read a full book or daily newspapers while commuting to work, I'd still choose the DX again. For casual magazine reading and fun computer use at home, the iPad is far superior due to all it's extra features.

So if you want to spend hours of reading on the largest e-Reader you can find, the Kindle DX is the way to go.

<![CDATA[Love The Amazon Kindle 3]]>Fri, 22 Oct 2010 09:34:13 -0800http://e-readerfeeder.com/1/post/2010/10/love-the-amazon-kindle-3.html

What an improvement on the old Kindle 2 - the latest version is much thinner, smalller in width and at a starting price of $149.00 US, much less expensive.

The battery life is three weeks to one month and has Whisper Sync, a 6 inch e-ink display, comes in Wi-Fi or 3G wireless downloading from the Amazon store and more.

I got this review from You Tube which will tell you everything you need to know.

<![CDATA[The Nook To Be Sold At Best Buy Stores]]>Mon, 12 Apr 2010 19:27:52 -0800http://e-readerfeeder.com/1/post/2010/04/the-nook-to-be-sold-at-best-buy-stores.htmlGood News. The Nook is to be sold at the Best Buy Electronic Stores, America's biggest chain store for consumer electronics (which really helps the Nook compete with the Kindle for the number one dedicated eReader position).

Now when gadget nuts walk into Best Buy, they can have a better selection of eBook Readers to choose from. I know Sony's Reader line up is their number one e-Reader seller but the buzz around the net is still Kindle vs Nook Sony fans are not vocal about the e-Readers, like gamers love the Playstation 3 and Best Buy can see where the market is going. More selection means more people will buy more eReaders and I always like to see more reading going on :)

Here is another Nook review for you because I wanted a video & I did not find a news clip about the announcement:

<![CDATA[Apple iPad is incredibly popular]]>Mon, 29 Mar 2010 08:41:12 -0800http://e-readerfeeder.com/1/post/2010/03/apple-ipad-is-incredibly-popular.htmlIf you thought the Kindle was very popular among the book lover crowd, the Apple iPad is probably ten times as popular as evidence by the number of articles and videos out there. As evidence, the Kindle has been around for three years now while the iPad is brand new, yet there are three times as many videos on You Tube for the iPad vs the Kindle. While journalists were talking Kindle last year so far iPad is the number one tech story of 2010 with no signs of slowing down.

Since the iPad makes a fantastic e-Book reader, this site will be expanding its' coverage as well so you will see quite a few articles and maybe some reviews on this ground breaking device.

<![CDATA[Gajah plans to be part of E-Book Revolution in China]]>Thu, 25 Mar 2010 19:51:53 -0800http://e-readerfeeder.com/1/post/2010/03/gajah-plans-to-be-part-of-e-book-revolution-in-china.htmlAccording to several reports, e-books will outsell books made from paper in China during 2010. Unlike European and American markets which price physical books and e-books at roughly the same price, in China e-books cost about one quarter the cost of paper bound books. Hard cover books are considered somewhat of an luxury item and e-books will make reading more affordable to the average Chinese. With a premium on literacy and education as a high priority among upward mobile families, the real growth e-Reader market in 2010 will be Asia rather than the rest of the world.

Building on the success of EB-S601, Gajah, out of Singapore is planning to launch no less than 10 new models for year 2010, with various screen sizes and specifications. Gajah's signature device looks set to be the colored
eBook reader and eMagazine but it is still a prototype in it's research lab. The EB-S601 has the same look, specs and feel as Lenovo's iBook so it is to be expected that most of Gajah's models will be imitations (or very similar to) other e-Readers in China.

<![CDATA[An Islamic e-Reader, the Enmac e-Alim, is a great idea]]>Thu, 18 Mar 2010 19:43:43 -0800http://e-readerfeeder.com/1/post/2010/03/an-islamic-e-reader-the-enmac-e-alim-is-a-great-idea.htmlNot much electronics news ever comes out of the Middle East or Africa so it is worth noting that Enmac has created a unique 7" e-Reader which is designed for the Muslim world's reading needs. And what better way than to give an Quran ( the Bible for Muslims) when the Enmac e-Alim EL1000 is purchased.

Enmac also makes other electronics with Islamic books included like media Players, cell or mobile phones but this is their first e-Reader. Stats of the e-Alim include Touch Screen, 7" TFT LCD, 64K Color display, 800 X 480 pixels resolution, Built-in Speakers, 64MB RAM support and 2GB SD Card.

<![CDATA[Digital Comic Books will become popular with the iPad & Tablet PCs]]>Wed, 17 Mar 2010 09:25:32 -0800http://e-readerfeeder.com/1/post/2010/03/digital-comic-books-will-become-popular-with-the-ipad-tablet-pcs.html
Comic book readers have not embraced digital electronics in the numbers as eBook readers and there is a good reason why. While some do, most people buy books for their entertainment and educational value but are not attached to the book's monetary value. Comic book fans are different. They collect issues religiously and rare editions can be very valuable indeed. Some comic books are not even read but sealed and stored like works of art.

Small wonder why digital comics are not as popular - how do you value an MP4 file or resell it? But Apple's iPad may be an attractive venue for digital comics publishers and could entice some of the casual comic fans to send some of their hard earned money. Why? iPad & other tablet PCs are more portable & simulate reading comic books better than desktop, laptop & even netbook computers. Watch the video why this could become a hot trend.

<![CDATA[Apple iPad vs Kindle DX]]>Sun, 14 Mar 2010 20:51:25 -0800http://e-readerfeeder.com/1/post/2010/03/apple-ipad-vs-kindle-dx.htmlI think Amazon should be worried about the future of the Kindle DX as Apple launches it's iPad multi-media device. With a starting price of $499.00 US, the iPad is just slightly more than the DX at $489.00 US and can do far more things on a 9.7" color LCD screen than the DX on it's e-Ink gray screen.

Who would not want to read magazines and newspapers in full color as well as browse the web, play videos, listen to music, email and more for just ten measly dollars? The DX can browse the web, display newspapers, books and magazines but only in black and white while it can't display color photos or videos at all. It is not suited for writing letters, creating spreadsheets or as a PDA and does not let you play Wii/Xbox 360/PS3 types of games at all.

Amazon might say the DX is more suited for longer reading (ie studying textbooks for hours at a time) but I don't think that will be enough incentive for people to continue to purchase the DX. It is time for the DX to pack up it's bags and leave the e-Reader arena or slash it's price by at least $100 just to stay in the game.

<![CDATA[Twitter is Broken]]>Mon, 08 Mar 2010 09:43:34 -0800http://e-readerfeeder.com/1/post/2010/03/twitter-is-broken.htmlLet's get off topic today. Twitter is suppose to be a communication tool and it can be also be a microblogging forum but it's not working. Say what is on your mind in less than 140 characters. If you want to send a message to all your friends at once, you can do that Tweet "let's all meet up at the pool hall at 8pm" and some of your buddies show up, that kind of thing.

Or you can promote your business, website, cause, blog whatever and people who like your stuff will eventually follow you (in theory). I do that myself or you might not be reading this.

But Twitter is not working like that. Everyone goes on Twitter and are tweeting boring stuff, or they are selling stuff, or worse they are sending good tweets and no one is listening. Everyone on Twitter is talking garbage, even shouting at each other and very few are paying attention.

I have yet to make any friends on Twitter out of my 2,000 followers because it takes a back and forth conversation to make friends and I have yet to receive an interesting direct message that was not trying to sell me something.

No wonder there are millions of dead accounts on Twitter because people try it out and find nobody is listening to them. It plain crazy, people are saying what's on their mind and millions show their indifference by ignoring the message which is drowned out in the noise of millions of other tweets.

What is even nuttier is I think some people don't even care if they are talking to themselves, they just need a place to vent, rant or put down their thoughts. Who writes in a paper journal these days? So what do you think? Is Twitter broken ? Should we leave Twitter for the nuts and spammers & let them continue to talk to themselves?

<![CDATA[Marketing 101]]>Wed, 03 Mar 2010 20:02:13 -0800http://e-readerfeeder.com/1/post/2010/03/marketing-101.htmlSo Acer has changed their minds about getting into the e-Reader business. Acer has cancelled their upcoming release of their own models citing the e-Reader market is still too small. It's not that the market is too small, it's that there are too many companies (50 or so) jumping into an immature business model.

There are way too many e-Readers being released in 2010 and my complaint is that most of them are clones of the Kindle or Nook. There is nothing remarkable about the majority of new models and few have any unique selling proposition (UPS) that will make consumers want to rush out and buy them.

Yes e-Readers are a hot market right now but we don't even know what will happen in the next two years. Qualcomm's & Asus color technology may wipe out gray scale e-ink e-Readers or maybe the new generation Tablet PCs will become so pleasant to read with, few people will want dedicated e-Readers. So I think some of these electronics companies should really go back to school and learn how to make e-Readers that really stand out from the crowd.
