Why make another list?
Free books? Which reading enthusiast does not like to hear the words "free books" especially if they are quality titles written by the greatest authors in English literature? There are hundreds, if not thousands, of websites that offer free downloads of eBooks. But hold on. Often the titles are of low quality or the page looks dodgy (suspect) and maybe there are great books but it is so very difficult to find the book you want. That is why I created this list with direct links to reputable sites so your search is somewhat simplified.
The Problem: I have been hunting for eBooks for a while now & can tell you, most eBook download sites like Google books & Project Gutenberg have thousands of titles but they are not perfect. These directories expect you to know the exact title of the book you want & how to spell the title or author. What if you want to browse the shelves? What if you want some ideas or suggestions? What if you don't know what you want?
Now there are some eBook stores like Kobobooks.com and Barnes & Noble that offer free eBooks but their selection is limited to less than two hundred titles & many don't have full descriptions or cover art. Not surprisingly, Borders and a couple of other bookstores don't seem to have any free eBooks. on their sites. Some of the e-Reader sellers like Interead (Cooler) & Endless Ideas (myBeBook) have thousands of free downloads but navigating through them is a bothersome chore. Other firms like iRex & Foxit just redirect their customers to the free sites.
The best free eBook library that I would recommend is Manybooks.net. It has more than 22,000 titles most of the m summarized so you know what you are getting, it is easy to shop around in and they have the most formats. If you know which title you want, Project Gutenberg.org is also a great choice because although they have less formats, it is easy to find specific books or writers.
My list: This is my list of books which I believe these are the among the best hundred and fifty books in the English language. It is in no particular order - the number refers to the sequence of entry only. If you like classic books, I am sure at least one of these books will suit your tastes. After I finished my entries & added all the links, I discovered I missed a few key titles so I might expand my list to two hundred at some point. Please bookmark this page if you agree this is a brilliant list & want to download more titles at a latter date.
